Modular Contacts are cantilever beam spring connector systems, which provide a vertical or horizontal interconnection in applications that require board-to-board interfaces or floating contacts. The name "Modular" Contact is used to help describe their "butting" or "stacking" ability. The number of contacts can be increased while maintaining the 2.54mm and 4.00mm spacing/pitch for models 70AA and 70AD respectively by simply placing the contacts end-to-end on the PWB circuit layout. To illustrate this point, an 8 contact connector is built using two different connector combinations. The first combination is stacking together two 4 connector Modular Contacts. The second combination is to stack one 2 connector and one 6 connector Modular Contacts. These types of combinations give the customers an abundant amount of flexibility during their design and manufacturing processes.

This feature helps customers use standard product without the expense of new tooling. As a standard product, Modular Contacts are readily available throughout distribution. More on these two points to follow.

Why Modular Contacts from Bourns?

Bourns has been using spring interconnects as an integral part of every trimmer and potentiometer for more than 50 years. Precision miniature molding, stamped spring wipers and high volume electromechanical component assembly has been key to Bourns success. It is upon this firm technical foundation that both the 70AA and 70AD models are built. Bourns strategy is to target clearly defined niche markets with small SMT connectors of innovative design.

Bourns is the first Standard OFF-THE-SHELF provider of this type of product.

This product is targeted for use in the handheld and portable electronics market.
