Bearings

Bearings must be suitable for the end application or operating environment. Most Bourns servo-mount models are designed with front and rear ball bearings, and are better suited to applications having greater side loads and higher rotational life requirements. Bushing mounted models employ aluminum, brass or plastic bearings and are best suited to input or calibration type applications.

It is more common to upgrade sleeve bearings with ball bearings than the latter. Sleeve bearings have a slightly higher torque, radial play and lateral runout tolerances. Ball bearings provide lower torque and higher rotational life. Upgrading sleeve bearings with ball bearings add cost to the model.
