RIVERSIDE, Calif. – August 8, 2001 -- Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer of electronic components and integrated solutions, today announced the introduction of the TISP4360H3BJ, designed to protect ADSL modems and splitters from lightning and power line induced surges, while simplifying compliance with UL1950/60950 safety standard. The addition of the ADSL ±15V digital signal on top of the traditional analog telephone 269V peak waveform means that previous protectors rated at 275V will clip ADSL signals. Bourns’ specialized high voltage, bipolar silicon process has enabled the development of the two terminal, surface mount TISP4360H3BJ with a rated working voltage of 290V to provide close protection without clipping ADSL signals. The high surge ratings of the DO-214 AA packaged protector are complemented by high AC current ratings, simplifying coordination with overcurrent protection and UL1950/60950 compliance.

Rugged global performance is assured through high ratings against international surge standards such as Telcordia GR-1089 CORE, FCC Part, and ITU-T K20/K21, combined with high resilience to power line faults as required by UL1950/60950 safety regulations. The TISP4360H3BJ presents an off-state current of less than 10µA, and only 24pF at 50V, which minimizes loading of the line, which is particularly important for high bandwidth ADSL applications.
The TISP4360H3BJ includes full bi-directional, voltage triggered protection, which will clamp surges of either polarity to a low-voltage, minimizing system stress. After the surge, the high guaranteed holding current of 150mA minimum ensures that the device switches off, enabling normal operation of the line to recommence immediately. Although designed for protecting equipment such as modems which are not ground referenced, the two terminal TISP4360H3BJ may be used in multiple to provide flexible multi-point protection from Tip and Ring to ground, or between all three connections as required.
