Bourns® Trimpot® Trimming potentiometers perform a variety of circuit adjustments in all types of electronic equipment. The variety of physical configurations available and the ability to withstand today's manufacturing environment offers the designer flexibility in selecting the best trimmer for the application.

Bourns single-turn trimmers are actuated by a direct-drive mechanism. It consists of a simple rotor with a slot, whose wiper movement is traversed in a circular path. Package types available include:

  • Sealed trimmers are built with an o-ring seal to prevent entrance of moisture and serve as a mechanical restraint to prevent unwanted wiper movement.
  • Open-frame trimmers are not sealed to withstand a cleaning process and are usually lower in cost.
Single-turn trimmers are designed with a direct-drive actuation for resistance adjustment and suitable for applications such as data input for digital equipment, where the level of accuracy is not critical.

*CRV stands for Contact Resistance Variation. It is the instantaneous change in contact resistance that will be encountered as the result of moving the wiper from one position to another. The limit of CRV is expressed as a percentage of the unit’s total resistance or ohms. When the wiper is actuated, the resistance at the wiper terminal, with respect to either end terminal, is apt to increase or decrease by a value within the CRV specification.
